About Sandbar
Carved out of a couple of ramshackle Georgian terraced houses Sandbar opened in 1996 and quickly established itself as a favourite watering hole for students, academics and local people who enjoy speciality beers and friendly conversation in this intimate, independent local.
By day a cafe bar with coffee, newspapers and TRADITIONAL PUB FOOD served alongside our wide range of Belgian, Czech and German draught and bottle beers. We have FREE WIFI INTERNET access for dedicated students to bring their laptops, an enclosed garden to rear and a function room that can be used at little cost for (PRIVATE) PARTIES AND EVENTS
By night Sandbar has been described as more of a house party than a pub with tunes supplied by our eclectic jukebox. We have outside tables which fill up quickly during summer months, and we annually host the Mets degree show after party at the end of term.
Sandbar prides itself upon its vast range of imported beers sourced through our own importer Sandbar German Beer Ltd. Both the bottled and draught varieties are the genuine article brewed on the continent rather than under licence in the UK and we frequently introduce new products to our diverse range.
SANDBAR EXCLUSIVES!! we have recently commissioned the Phoenix Brewery in Haywood to produce our very own PHOENIX PILSNER a lager brewed to the German Reinheitsgebot (purity law)
We also stock an extensive range of speciality bottle conditioned beers including Trappist Ales, Lambic beers and wheat beers.
Sandbar is an active member of THE CAMPAIGN FOR REAL ALE - we are in the GOOD BEER GUIDE - and have 6 traditional hand pumps dispensing fine real ales and ciders from several award winning breweries around the region and further a field.
ACCESS there is limited level access. Most of the pub is three steps up from street level.
The wall space in Sandbar is devoted to the works of up and coming LOCAL ARTISTS exhibiting their photography, painting, printing, collages and short films, with exhibitions changing on a regular basis. We welcome proposals from artists for future exhibitions.
ENVIRONMENTAL STUFF we don't weave our own yoghurt but we do recycle all our paper, cardboard, glass and we get our electricity from Good Energy www.good-energy.co.uk which is a 100% renewable energy supplier.
